The one-tonne, six-wheeled rover was launched out of Florida by an Atlas rocket on a path to intercept the Red Planet in February next year. When it lands, the Nasa robot will also gather rock and soil samples to be sent home later this decade. A Long March-5 rocket, China's largest launch vehicle, carrying the spacecraft with a mass of about 5 tonnes, soared into the sky from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on the coast of southern China's island province of Hainan at 12:41 p.m. (Beijing Time). About 36 minutes later, the spacecraft, including an orbiter and a rover, was sent into the Earth-Mars transfer orbit, embarking on an almost seven-month journey to the red planet, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). ...

The IRGC’s Airborne Unit in a ceremony participated by IRGC Top Commander Major General Hossein Salami on Monday unveiled several achievements, including the new laser-guided missile system for Cobra helicopters which are fired and guided by the pilot as well as S-24 rockets mounted on Mi-171 helicopters. Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), visited the Pyongyang General Hospital under construction and gave field guidance, official media reported on Monday. While touring the construction site, Kim highly appreciated the builders' feats and also pointed out the serious problems in the financial arrangements of the construction, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said, without mentioning the date of the visit. Spotlight: UAE 1st Mars orbiter "ambitious and pioneering" in Arab world   CAIRO, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday celebrated the launch of its Hope probe, Arab world's first Mars orbiter, deemed as an ambitious and pioneering breakthrough. Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. on Monday launched a rocket carrying the orbiter from the Tanegashima Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture in southwestern Japan. The 1.5-ton Hope Probe, which measures 2.9 meters in length and 2.37 meters in width, was developed at Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center in Dubai. It is expected to reach orbit around Mars in 2021 to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UAE. The mission is also the first of its kind by a Middle Eastern country.
